In the all-important and stressful five-minute playoffs three teams reached the quarterfinals: The Ukranian Makhno sisters, Dutchies Pleun Ypma and Emi van Driel and USA’s Sarah Schermerhorn and Corinne Quiggle. All three of them later secured a spot in the semis as well, the route for the team from the Netherlands was the most heroic, winning in another play-off match late Saturday evening.

Men
Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins had their hopes of a first crown crushed in the final play-off of the day. Having played all matches possible, it would have been quite a story, but Chileans Noa Aravena and Vicente Droguett (who also went through 2 play-off phases) stood in their way. In the morning Utrecht 2021 Kings Krattiger/Breer were eliminated.

The quarterfinals had all the firework the Hamburg crowd was hoping for. Hamburg King Piotr Kantor and his teammate Maciej Rudol won the match, as well did Qataris Ahmed and Cherif and the new pairing of German Clemens Wickler and Dutch blocker Robert Meeuwsen. The level is very high, the plays are spectacular again. The fight for the crown is intensifying on the men’s side.
