The first edition of CEV Queen & King of the Court European Finals in Utrecht is set to have the best line-up to have ever played this exciting format. It’s only fitting that the ‘kings’ of beach volleyball, reigning Olympic, world and European champions Anders Mol and Christian Sørum will be there. In addition, a total of eight former international Kings and six Queens are present. Mark your calendars, Queen & King of the Court European Finals 2022 in Utrecht played from September 6th till 11th will be a royal battle of epic proportions.
European Volleyball Confederation CEV has joined forces with organizer Sportworx to create the first European Finals. This cooperation is an essential step in the development of King of the Court. Prize money for Queen & King of the Court European Finals is the same as in the European Championships of regular beach volleyball and the Beach Nations Cup: a whopping € 200,000. It’s the highest award ever for a King of the Court tournament, this will be truly unprecedented.
Men
The teams that signed-up for Utrecht are without exception top of the line European beach volleyball players. First: the reigning Olympic, world and European champions, and recent Nations Cup winners Anders Mol and Christian Sørum will fight to win their first crown. They were runners-up on three occasions, will they be able to add the one missing major title to their careers?
The opposition will be fierce, because a total of eight former Kings is bidding for another crown. Marco Krattiger and Florian Breer (SUI) are the 2020 Utrecht champions, David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig from Sweden the reigning Utrecht 2021 Kings. Clemens Wickler won the tournament in Hamburg last June on the side of Dutchman Robert Meeuwsen, he will now partner with Sven Winter. Meeuwsen on the other hand is back with his regular partner with whom he won the 2017 test event: Alexander

Women
The women’s field is equally impressive. Tokyo 2020 bronze medal winner and Hamburg 2021 Queen Anouk Vergé-Dépré starts the quest for the crown with new temporary partner Menia Bentele. The Swiss women have just won the inaugural Beach Nations Cup in Vienna together with Nina Brunner and Tanja Hüberli, the Swiss are throwing everything at it in Utrecht.
But don’t forget about the Dutch. In their home country 2022 Hamburg Queens Emi van Driel and Pleun Ypma will do everything within their power to keep the title in the Netherlands. World number 2’s Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon and Agadir Beach Pro Tour winners Emma Piersma and Mexime van Driel (silver in QOTC 2020 Utrecht) are also part of the team. Next to them we also have 2021 Utrecht Queen Maria Belén Carro, 2021 Doha Queens Sandra Ittlinger and Isabel Schneider.
