The two Dutch champions beach volleyball will be supported by telephone company Motorola during King of the Court 2020 in Utrecht. Katja Stam / Raïsa Schoon and Jasper Bouter / Ruben Penninga are the challengers of the established order in beach volleyball, a nice parallel with how Motorola positions itself in the market as challengers of tech giants such as Apple and Samsung.
It was not a difficult decision for Motorola to sponsor both Dutch talent teams. There are similarities between the company and the sport of beach volleyball, with King of the Court as a spearhead. Marketing manager Harold de Kort explains it as follows.
“Motorola has been around for over 90 years,” he says. “The company is always looking for innovation in the telecom industry. We see a nice parallel with beach volleyball. Beach volleyball has been around for a long time, but King of the Court is an innovation in this field. How can we change it so that both athletes and spectators enjoy it more? That is what we do with our innovations.”
Ultra Speed for all
The speed of King of the Court, which adds an extra dimension to the game, is also something De Kort sees in the developments at Motorola. “We are developing smartphone products that work on 5G. Ultra speed for all is our theme, you can of course see that in King of the Court where the innovation has ensured that the game has been given a much faster pace for players and the spectators.”
“We make our technology for everyone and it must be available to everyone. It is good to see that King of the Court can also be experienced by everyone. Both in the stadium, in the city of Utrecht and at home via the livestream. Everyone will be a part of the experience. That is why a collaboration with both a women's and a men's team is important to us, we do not exclude anyone. Outsiders also have a chance to win, it's not just about the established order. That is why it is great to sponsor talented teams, so that they can eventually make it to becoming Kings or Queens of the Court. ”
A glimpse into their daily top sport life
The support of both couples of Beach Volleyball Team Netherlands is expressed in financial support around and during the event that will be played on the Jaarbeursplein in Utrecht from 9 to 12 September. The Dutch players have also received a telephone from Motorola.
“We are thrilled to show our (potential) customers on our social media channels how top athletes use their mobile phone,” De Kort explains. “They not only stay in touch with their family, friends and fans, they can also monitor their health, keep track of training sessions, everything to stay in top condition. And if they are waiting or traveling, they can listen to music, watch movies and play games via that smartphone. It is nice to be able to follow them, especially with those young teams. How they experience the event and how they use their telephone in their daily top sport life.”
Motorola Play of the Day
In addition to supporting these two teams, Motorola has also committed to the tournament itself. A Motorola Play of the Day is chosen every day. "Very cool to link us to the beautiful moments in this super fast sport."
Wilco Nijland, the owner of Sportworx, the event agency that organizes King of the Court in Utrecht, is pleased with the collaboration. “It's great that they want to give the young generation a chance. I hope for a long-term partnership so that they can support this generation on their way to the top.”
