Sportworx, the Dutch inventor and promotor of King of the Court, organizes this tournament in cooperation with the German Volleyball Association, the City of Hamburg and the Hamburg communication Agency FAKTOR 3. In 2021 the people of Hamburg first experienced the sheer joy of a King of the Court tournament. At the Stadion am Rothenbaum both the German and international Kings and Queens were crowned. The best names in Beach Volleyball accounted for those titles, Chantal Laboureur and Sarah Schulz became German Queens, Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler ascended the throne in the men’s side.

The international tournament also got a German winner, Laura Ludwig and her Swiss partner Anouk Vergé-Dépré pulled the greatest comeback in King of the Court history to win the final, Poland’s Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak showed their dominance and earned the royal robe.

This year the action will be as impactful as last year, but the venue will be different. On the Heiligengeistfeld Sportworx and FAKTOR 3 will build the trademark corona proof King of the Court stadium. The Active City Arena offers space for 1,000 spectators, with the special feature being the two three-story grandstand sides with corona proof skyboxes. These VIP boxes, which enable a close and special experience of the event, will give players the feeling of being in a gladiator’s pit. As a spectator you will be so close to the court, you will feel part of the action. King of the Court features as the opening act for the Arena that will be on the Heiligengeistfelt till July 10th. Over the 18 days other sports will be played, including 3X3 Basketball, a stop of the German Beach Tour, Air Badminton and table tennis.

Several stars of King and Queen of the Court have already signed on as participants: Isabel Schneider and Sandra Ittlinger, the winners of the King of the Court 2021 Finals in Doha in January, but also last year’s German champions Chantal Laboreur and Sarah Schultz will compete for the crowns. On the men’s side, German twins David and Bennet Poniewaz will fight for victory. The German top players Kira Walkenhorst and Clemens Wickler, whose partners will be announced shortly, will also be there. Additional teams will be announced on June 1st.
