Doha Finals Day 3: Ehlers/Wickler display dominance

The Queen & King of the Court Doha Finals 2023 entered the final day as a jam-packed Friday saw two teams in both the women’s and men’s tournaments qualify for the final.

Rotterdam champs continue to impress

Katja Stam and Raisa Schoon continued to impress as they safely survived the opening rounds of Semi-Final A before dominating Round Three to advance to Saturday’s final. In the other semi, Helland-Hansen/Kotnik survived an intense match that saw all teams go from high to low in unpredictable fashion. The Norwegian/Slovenian duo ended up relying on their experience to see them advance.

Ehlers/Wickler lay down a marker

German giants Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler put out one of the most dominant performances in Queen & King of the Court history by demolishing their opposition in Semi-Final A. After crushing the competition in Round Two with a grand total of 29 points and a longest stay of 16, they went on to score 15 consecutive points in Round Three to automatically qualify for the final. In Semi-Final B, the Bello brothers saved their best for last after they rallied to 15 points in Round Three to progress.

One more day of beach volleyball

Elsewhere, The Grudzinskaite sisters survived an incredible third play offs of the week as they are still in the hunt for Doha glory. They were joined in the play offs survivors club by another group of siblings, as the Aye brothers from France kept their hopes alive in the last session of the night.

Saturday sees the Doha Finals, and with it, the beach volleyball season of 2023, come to a close. Firstly, however, the final lineup needs to be decided, starting at 15:00 local time (UTC +3) with Semi-Final C. Then, from 18:30 onwards, the Queens and Kings of Doha will start to be decided.
